Current Elliott Boyfriend Jean=Good Investment

I so thought I would breeze over the boyfriend jean trend without having to engage. If they make even Katie Holmes look frump, I had no chance in them. But on a recent Europe trip, after about three days in the same skinny jeans, I needed some jean liberation. I was sick of a) wearing the same jeans and b) feeling like I was busting out of the skinnies with each night's creme brulee. So I went on the cheap and bought a nice comfy pair of generic boyfriend jeans...I mean, why pay the big ticket for a trend that will be over before it began. Here comes the testimonial: I've worn them at least four days out of each week since I got them. I pop them on to walk the dog, I wear them when i want to feel skinny (since you will drown in any good fitting pair) and I merch em up with heels sometimes and wear them at night. So by now, I have invested in the Current Elliott pair, they are now in frequent rotation, and I won't skimp on a good thing again. They are like my new wooby! How many times have bridesmaids said that? If they shriek with excitement when they see the dress and say 'I will totally wear this again!', they probably won't. (Big tip: shrieking is overacting which signifies lying). But seriously, I would wear one of these again if someone made me purchase it. Heck, I might even buy one with no wedding in mind and wear it to a cocktail party. Or maybe I'm just being lured in by the cute flags in the background. Marketing....got me again!

I stumbled across this dress on etsy.com, and after pulling on the thread, found my way to this lovely site, makoollovesyou.com, with very original and interesting pieces. In tough money times, I try to only buy pieces that are totally unique and different. Not necessarily of the current trend, but more of a timeless piece that you will treasure. I also think that wearing something unique just makes me feel better about myself...a reminder that I am also unique and different and even if I don't have money, I have that!

Life's Biggest Fashion Dilemma-Wedding Dress

When I say i need new boots, I typically mean I need one pair. However, it is not uncommon to come home with two or three. So imagine my perplexion (if it's not a word, it should be...work with me here) when I realized shopping for one wedding dress means I can only come home with one. Unless I pretend to be Eva Langoria Parker or stage an unfortunate 'ripping' of my wedding dress mid-way through the reception, I can't envision how i can do a costume change without some raised eyebrows and that 'what a diva' glare. Therefore, I will spend the next few months scouring the market and agonizing every day about the perfect ONE. I'll give in...but I'm not too happy about it. To get the ball rolling...here is what I'm loving now: Torn Flowers. Anyone see any good ones I should know about?

Gap, You Did It Again

So maybe it's a three-hit wonder, but the Gap has pulled a really cool rabbit out of their hat: three CDFA award winners, Doo Ri, Thakoon, and Rodarte to design a line of creative white shirts for them. The stuff is dope...especially since the white shirt is looking so fresh right now. But alas, go to your rural stores to find any product left. This is sold out online already! Maybe the Gap should have actually made enough product for the demand and they could have pulled themselves out of their two year sales slump!

Ahh yes. I did just buy this dress a full 2 sizes too small because I love it so. Alas, I will spend my evening moving snaps by about an inch to make this dress appear to be my size. I've found that my size varies based on 1) How much I obsess about something and 2) How much it costs. I could range from a 2 to a 12 at the Barney's Warehouse Sale. So if you see me hobbling down the street, know how truely and deeply I love those shoes, or at least loved the price tag.

But it was worth if for this doozy. It was featured in both In Style and Domino, and is sold out from Bergdorf to Intermix. Milly sure knew what she was doing with this frock, and it doesn't hurt that it is the color du jour. So you see, I just had to the last one, regardless of the size.

Diggin Gap Boyfriend Fit Khakis

Now I thought for sure with the dismal news coming out of the Gap in the past year, they wouldn't have anything worth viewing this season. So it wasn't until I was window shopping in Paris and ran across the cutest outfit that I actually fell into the Gap. I avoid all of the NYC Gaps because I know where each it located, but scouring windows overseas, I don't know what stores I'm looking at until something catches my eye and I walk in.
And this is what caught my eye this time. I haven't been so into white shirts and khakis since Mad About You. But this androgynous look, baggy pants, fitted top, swing jacket, has a newer look. It's not really baggy over baggy like it was in the 90's. There is a bit of a Audrey Hepburn look. Just in time for all of the cute ballet flats infultrating the country.

Yeah I know it sounds funny, but when I saw my friend Patty wearing a black pencil skirt, fab black Dior heels, and a shocking yellow sweater, it just rolled off my tongue. But knowing she had just come back from Europe, I realize now, sitting in my Paris hotel, what she just saw. Everyone is wearing black and yellow. It's part mod part matrix and definately leaves you looking like the queen bee. Not sure if I'm ready for it yet...especially with my 2 month old shade of blonde. Not good with most yellow hues. But I'm definately ready for Spring and this screams it.

Bubblicious at BCBG

Now I admittedly embarrassed myself in a bubble skirt this past season, but I'm not quite over trying out volume shapes yet. I think I can give it one more try with the hottest bubble o' the moment, the bubble sleeve. This look is most appropriate for spring or summer, because trust me, it is impossible to wear a jacket over this look without having lumpy arms. It's also better when it's warm because the rule of thumb on volume sleeves is keep the silhouette short and sexy elsewhere. If you try this look in a long or full dress, you'll need to belt in at the waist to make it slenderizing. DO NOT do volume all over. It's important to show off something slim, whether its a long lean leg or a waistline. The skinny mini is the newest length because it gives you a 60's twiggy look.

Ben Kweller Is So Puppy

Don't worry, I'm over this word in about 15 hours. But last night, I decided that the sweetest, nicest, most lovely things in the world are 'puppy'. My friend Leslie and her fiance Olly cuddling in the corner are puppy, Tom Gray's smile is puppy, and Ben Kweller is just all around puppy!
But wait, there's more. Ben has quite a cool style, which is why he warrants a blog entry. Last night, he was very 'Chips Ahoy'...a nautical twist but with a yummy humor about it. Check out the head to toe...striped shirt: tres francais, gray jeans: very now, tiny blazer: brooklyn chic, and a cool cap. Captain oh my captain.

I also dig the curls, the songs, and most of all his attitude. He gushed about his grandma on stage, interacted with the crowd all night, and added my fav song, Run, to his set list just because my friend JB requested it. What a guy! Bringing Back the Dittos

Dittos was a huge late 70's, early 80's brand that focused on tight t's and high waisted jeans in bright colors. How High Can You Go?

As I sat on a barstool with my very hot date last night, it dawned on me that I was wearing my 'standing room only' jeans. Meaning, if I'm in the sitting postition, rest assured my bum is being beared to the general public. Definate reason to not sit at the bar stool the makes your backside face the restaurant patrons. You just end up being a 'yanker' all night...making sure your sweater stretches as far is it can go to mind the gap between your jeans and your top.

Which is why I'm finally ready for the high waisted pant. I was afraid I would get 1980 mom's butt...the elongated backside view that makes your behind look like it's 1/3 of your total body height. But I've found the key to this look is making sure the mid-section of your pants, that is, the section from the top of the pant to just below the belly button, has a corset effect and actually looks like a seperate piece. It should have some sort of seam around your low waist, so you get all the beauty of a long torso, but the added benefit of a tiny weeny pinched waist. Now the only thing to bring back is the vintage exercises with the belly band or the broomstick so you can nip that waist in!

Scarlett Loves Reebok-BIG Disappointment!

So Scarlett's line for Reebok debuted yesterday...and the fact that you've probably heard nothing about it is no accident! The line is about 6 styles and a couple of colors...including the ever exciting white and gray? Maybe things fizzled out in the partnership after she spend her last six months concentrating on LV and JT...but the design team at Reebok could have AT LEAST come up with something presentable. With so many design partnerships happening today (Stella for Adidas, Madonna for H&M, everyone cool for Target,etc) celebrity names are just par for the course. You have to have cool design to back it up. Shame on you Reebok.

Lanie Learns to Krump

I'm OBSESSED with meez.com, so much that I just burned a half hour finding the cutest Lanie version I could create. And I thought turning myself into an elf on officemax.com was cool!

Meez allows you to select from oodles of hairstyles, eye colors, outfits, settings, you name it! They even have ethnic face features which is a step up from the Barbie.com games my niece *makes* me play with her. Welcome meez Lanie to the PS blog...I'll try to update her outfits and her settings often (she is krumping for a limited time only).

Scarlett Johansson Fell From Heaven

As if I needed another reason to adore Scarlett Johansson, I came across these pictures of her in the Spring LV campaign. I love the style of these photos with a porcelain type finish. Dior is doing something similar this season with color that looks like it came straight off of the white range of a paint store.

Scarlett is a mix of natural beauty and imperfection. She has such a reality to her voice, style, attitude. I imagine Scarlett is cool and smooth, but can still be the girl that text messages a guy too much after a breakup and regrets it.

Black, White, and Red All Over

No it's not new, but black and red hasn't looked this fresh since the White Stripes ruled it.
I think I love it more now because it feels more black and white with hints of red...most importanly the lips! There were so many raspberry red lips on the runway, that I'm almost ready to throw out the gloss! Matte lips are starting to look good again. And leave the shine to all the great new giant crystal beads and mirrored gemstones like this cool Chloe dress.

Sarah Jessica Parker Bends Over Backwards for the Environment

Mrs. Ferris Bueller lives just down the street from me and I see her and the fam quite a bit in the West Village. I've seen little James throw fits, SJP talk to neighbors, and Matthew shoveling the walk. So they pretty much seem like an all American family. Save for times that an Escalade rolls up to pick them up in evening attire for Broadway debuts, movie screenings, etc.

So today I was extremely impressed when the unassuming Prius that was complete with driver came to attention as SJP carried out her stroller. Looks like the Brodericks have downgraded their wheels and upgraded their cool factor in my opinion. If you don't know the Prius, it is has both a gas engine and electric motor, great fuel economy and low emissions. Don't care because you take the subway? Reese's Pieces...vavavoom at the 2007 Oscars

While I'm tempted to comment on multiple winning looks at the Oscars, we all know that many are nominated, but there is always one winner. And this year it is by far Reese Witherspoon in a fab Nina Ricci plum layered gown.

And why? Although it is obvious, let's break it down:

1) FIT-This dress is perfectly nipped at her best asset...her waistline. It is refreshing to see a dress that fits in a real vintage way. Plus we are all sick of people making their cleavage a key part of their look.

2) HAIR-She is rocking the long layers that Gwenyth and Nicole had, but her bangs look so fresh and updated.

3) ATTITUDE-We all love a survivor, but she's not sending out the pathetic Teri Hatcher 'look at me know' vibes. She is truely confident, strong and super sexy.

So firm nod to Rachel Weisz, Jennifer Lopez, and Naomi Watts, but Reese gets the gold.

You CAN Mix Your Whites

A loyal 'PS' fan recently asked me if he could a) wear white in the winter and b) mix different shades of white. Well OF COURSE you can wear white in the winter...that trend has been around a couple of seasons now. The question is whether you are bold enough to brave the glaring looks of tradtionalist who are dying for Memorial Day to arrive so they can gleam in their best whites. (PS. I don't recommend exercising this trend in the state of Texas).

But can you mix whites? I would have initially said no...actually seems kind of weird to me. But low and behold, several Menswear designers show various shades of cream and white mixed in the same outfit, Valentino and Vuitton to name just a few. Now these aren't rebel design teams, they are well established high end brands, so if they say it's ok...go nuts! Just make sure leave the white patent dress shoes to Cousin Eddy.

Ga Ga for Gucci

Not to be a Prada hater, but every season, Prada sends down the runway these frumpy outfits that may speak to the trend-du-jour, but always fail to bowl you over with femininity. Low and behold, you step into the Prada store and find about 10 of their runway looks and 100 basics items.

So I have to give Gucci props, for showing a very wearable line that looks fresh and new and then sticking to it in season. This 1940's retro glam look is the most amazing show I've seen so far this season. Not only is it chock full of new elements: feather prints, Hepburn trousers, Sequin embellishments, but if feels very modern in it's interpretation. Get out the bobby pins...this look is amazing with fingerwaves and berry lips.

Some Dope Dots at the Luella Show

Ok so maybe I'm a week late at the NYC shows, but I've just decided I love these velvet and burnout dots. They are super 80's but look great in moderation. Now that I've converted my wardrobe to all black, it's now about how can I get even more black without being boring...and I think this is it!

Rock Candy Rings

I have to give a shout out to a Megan Greene of Magpie Rings, for her delish cocktail rings. They look good enought to eat!

I bought a couple of her rings at the last Shecky's 'Girls Night Out' and they have become my signature pieces. Especially since I can either be a) not much into lots of jewelry, and 2) too forgetful to put on jewelry, I just keep a ring stashed in my bag at all times to give some flash to my outfit. Not only do I get tons of compliments on them, but it ups my cool factor because each piece is original art!

Eye Love Eye Let

Once the snow thaws, I've got my eyelet dresses ready to go. The newness this year is to wear eyelet in graphic patterns. It should have a slight 60's and vintage vibe. Make sure to ditch the Little House on the Prarie eyelet from two years ago. If it's at the knee or below, it's gotta go. Good rule of thumb...or rule of knee.

If you're nervous about wearing white too soon...ease into it with some tall boots. White is NOT for post memorial day only. Wearing true white all year round is tres MOD! And wearing white doesn't have to be basic...add color in your accessories to make it really pop!

Lovely Lily...Ghetto Fab is Back!

Obsession of the moment...big gold hoops. Gwen, Fergie, and now Lily are cementing the comeback of ghettofab and I love it!

If you haven't heard of Lily Allen, run don't walk. Her smooth voice is so cute and sweet, you can hardly believe her lyrics are about breakups (being happy to see the ex cry), getting hit on by nasty men, and her brother smoking pot in his bedroom. It's like Liz Phair with Nora Jones voice. Layer on her cool style (trainers with sundresses) and you have a cult classic. Does anyone know where she got her SNL dress? Love how overdramaticly full it is. It laughs at prom.

The Gammy's, I mean Grammy's

Granted there were some beautiful long luxiourious gowns on the red carpet, these are the only three girls that got it right last night. It's not the prom, it's the GRAMMY'S!!! One of the most fun and hip awards shows around. Let's see those gams!!!

What's worse, is when the cameras scanned the crowd, even the common folk thought it is acceptable to wear an updo and a bad bridesmaid dress. How can you get down to Chris Brown with your satin dyed-to-match t-straps?

These gorgesco girls are showing the right amount of show stopping leg. Ever since the return on the sixties mini dress, the leg is the new accessory. And with all this glam happening on the dresses, it is even more appropriate to be short and not look too serious. They are definately going to be the envy of the afterparty set. Who wants to table dance in a hoop skirt?

Chanel Bow Blouse Babes

I personally think voluminous tops are really hard to wear without feeling 9 months preggers, but this coat is really cute because it hugs her butt. The Clash

I've been loving the idea of hits of plaid...coats, bags, etc, but couldn't imagine how to funk it up enough to not look like a prepster or Scottish. So this was a really novel idea to me...clashing plaids. Much cooler looking than the expected 'skull and crossbones' or foil print to lend a punk edge. This has a little polish but still enough irreverance. But beware, keep it in the same color family and preferably bright or you may go dangerously 90's grunge.

Long Lost Top

I saw this on the street in NYC the other day on a pyt, and it was adorable on a person. I figured any shirt that made a mannequin look fat couldn't be good...but I was wrong. Now I'm not a big fan of the typical granny boot, but these flat boots with the lace up in the back instead of the front is more 'Granny meets Pirates of the Carribean'. And with the fold over, you can make these looks super tall like a bunch of celebs are wearing right now or you can make it just a modest boot (ok almost modest). Tip on the tall boots though...wear black or dark denim unless you have Kate Bosworth thighs.

I'm loving this school girl goes cool look. She totally made this look youthful with catholic girl priss, but added an edge to it that doesn't look too 'hit me baby one more time'. Digging the sweater dress too. I'm telling you, sweater dresses are here for at least a year, so dig one out of your ma's closet or even invest in an expensive cashmere version. You will want to wear it daily! So cozy and well worth the investment!

Are we too old for Jumpers? I LOVE THEM this fall, but uberconcerned about their age-appropriateness. Anyone want to weigh in on that? Are jumpers ageless? At least this one is more of a pencil skirt, so it's not too kiddy. Intermixonline.com has some great ones, but they are the fuller ones. I'll buy the one that you all vote for!

I'm in LA checking out how they live on the other coast and they have not yet embraced the 80's school girl meets Acapella singer prep look. Instead, they have pulled out Grannies moo-moo dresses for a 70's chic look. Although I love these prints and patterns, they can be rough on a) the wrong skin tone and/or b) in mass, so opt for a mini version especially if you are shorter than 5'9"!

In other LA news, was at Hyde last night and the stars were out! Linds Lohan, Cam and JT, Drew Barrymore and Leelee Sobieski. Drew was sporting a cute 70's printed wrap dress, and Cam and Linds were in all black. The weirdest look was Leelee's high waisted pants that zipped up the back almost all the way to her arms...avant guarde but uncomfortable!

I know this is a fashion site, but after admiring my gorgeous full lashes in the mirror a few minutes ago, I thought it was worth it to tell you about a happy accident. To make it brief...Luggage lost in Paris, awful. Had to go shopping for new stuff, not so bad. Bought a new mascara by L'Oreal called Telescopic, FANTASTIC. No lie, I look like I'm wearing falsies, but in a good way. Not too goopy but still full and lush. Are you ready for the awful twist? When I googled it to grab a picture for you all (and stock pile some myself), I found they are only selling it in the UK! Although all good things born in the UK make their way to the US (The Beatles, Pubs, Jude Law), my Telescopic could not come too soon! Please pick some up for me if anyone hops the pond soon...

These shoe boots make you one hot babe! I just bought a pair from Rampage at Macys, and I do feel like quite the diva in them. The shorter these boots are, the more 'fashiony' they will be. So if you love the look but want to tip-toe into this trend, buy a taller pair (mid calf) and fold them over in half when you are feeling racy!

Berry Berry quite contrary. Just when I transitioned my wardrobe to all black, Spring makes a comeback with bright sixties colors and graphics. With yummy strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries, these new colors make quite a splash. Love it in a micro mini if you can pull it off (on the beach perhaps?) Don't do this in a head to toe long dress...unless, of course, you are already booked in the next taping of VH1 Divas.

My feminist side wants to reward this, my but my critical side wishes she wore a different outfit. You do have to give Jean Paul Gaultier props for sending a size 20 model down his runway in Paris yesterday in response to the recent debate about the shrinking size of runway models. Think he is being supportive or sarcastic?

It seems so sad to say goodbye to those summer shorts as the days get colder. But this clever lass has paired hers with leggings and boots to extend the life! Not only a super smart way to wear winter shorts, but also a cooler look for leggings. Anyone else getting tired of seeing them with miniskirts and flats? Also, chunkier boots will help balance your figure, so you don't get that carrot look when wearing leggings!

I can't get enough of leopard (of course not all in one outfit!) but I'm nervous about wearing the same pair of basic leopard heels that everyone has (read: Steve Madden has cornered the market on leopard). Answer: Silk flowers. The over the top purple flower is fab, but you can also tone down the size. Perfect for color matching or just adding extra 'pop' with a black dress.

The new uniform looks like something dragged out of your catholic school past. Although I'm just lukewarm on plaid skirts, I'm LOVING sweater dressing. Comfy cozy, but doesn't really make me accountable for last night's pizza fest. This look is from River Island in London, but can easily be pieced together from your local H&M or other teen store findings.
